Dr. Lora Lee Hardy grew up on a farm in Lucan, Ontario. She earned her Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Optometry degrees from the University of Waterloo in 2007. Throughout her academic studies, she was recognized on the Dean’s Honors List and was awarded the William Feinbloom Low Vision Award in her final year. She began working in private practice at Barrhaven Optometric Centre in 2007 and became a partner in 2010.

Dr. Hardy is an active member of the Canadian Association of Optometrists (CAO), Ontario Association of Optometrists (OAO), and the past president of the Ottawa Society of Optometrists (OSO). She is also part of the OAO Urgent Care committee, working with the Ministry of Health to improve patient access to emergency eye care and promote public education.

Past experience includes an externship at an ophthalmological center in Birmingham, Alabama, specializing in diseases of the retina, glaucoma, pre- and post-operative cataract and refractive surgery and oculoplastics. Dr. Hardy has also travelled to Chile, Peru, and Nicaragua to provide eye care to the underprivileged. In addition, she has led several training lectures for optometric staff.

In her spare time, Dr. Hardy enjoys travel, golf, and spending time with friends and family. Dr. Hardy firmly believes vision is more than “20/20” and she strives to share her knowledge and her passion for the enhancement and protection of eyesight with her patients.

Dr. McIntosh began his career in New Brunswick and served a year on the New Brunswick Association of Optometrists’ council. He joined the Barrhaven Optometric Centre in August 2006 and became a partner in 2008. Originally from Florenceville, New Brunswick, Dr. McIntosh began his studies at UNB in Fredericton where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree. In 1998 he began studying optometry at the University of Waterloo. During his studies, he had a 4-month clinical rotation at an Ophthalmology clinic in Baltimore, Maryland, where he was able to monitor and treat various eye diseases. He graduated from the Optometry program on the Dean’s Honours list in 2002.

In his spare time, Dr. McIntosh enjoys a variety of hobbies including, watercolour painting, piano, skiing, cycling, and kiteboarding. He is also a competitive bagpiper and has won numerous awards in solo bagpiping. He is a proud member of the Ottawa Police Service pipe band, which competes successfully at the highest level of competition.

Dr. Graham grew up in the small town of Russell, Ontario, just a short drive away from Barrhaven. After receiving his Honours Science degree, Dr. Graham moved south to attend The Indiana University School of Optometry where he spent 4 years gaining valuable knowledge and experience. In his final year, he was awarded the Vistakon Award for Excellence in Contact Lens Patient Care.

During clinical rotations, Dr. Graham worked for the U.S. Veterans Affairs Hospital system in New York and Florida, where he obtained experience and knowledge in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of many ocular diseases. Through his Optometry program, Dr. Graham was able to gain experience in clinics specializing in, pediatrics, low vision, and contact lenses.

In 2013, Dr. Graham became a partner at the Barrhaven Optometric Centre. In his spare time, he enjoys watching and participating in all sports, specifically the high levels of hockey and playing the great golf courses the city of Ottawa has to offer. Dr. Graham and his wife, fellow Optometrist Dr. Rosanna Rivard, intend to be a part of the Barrhaven community for many years to come and look forward to helping the practice and community continue to grow together.

Dr. Young graduated from the Doctor of Optometry program at the School of Optometry, University of Waterloo in 1978. He started his career in Arnprior where he practiced for 2 years. He established the Barrhaven Optometric Centre in 1979 with a mission to provide the best possible primary eye care and build the practice alongside the growing community.

As a strong advocate for optometry, Dr. Young has served the optometric community as president of the Ottawa Society of Optometrists, as a board and executive member of the Ontario Association of Optometrists, and as a chairman of the Occupational Vision Plan Program in Ontario.

Dr. Young received further training in therapeutic pharmaceutical agents from the School of Optometry, University of Waterloo in 2001. He has a keen interest in contact lens practice; serving as a consultant on advisory panels and participating in clinical trials for various contact lens and solution companies.

Dr. Young enjoys living in the community of Barrhaven with his wife, Jackie, where together, they watched their sons Danny and Daryl grow up. Dr. Young is active in sports including hockey, skiing, snowboarding, and golf.

Dr. Young retired from practice in 2018.

Dr. Rivard graduated from the University of Waterloo in 2008 receiving Doctor of Optometry and Honours Science degrees. Dr. Rivard was recognized on the Dean’s Honors List each year of her university career.

Through her Optometry program, Dr. Rivard was able to gain experience in clinics specializing in contact lenses, pediatrics, low vision, ocular health, and binocular vision. She completed a clinical rotation in Louisville, Kentucky at a clinic specializing in laser vision correction, cataract surgery, and the management of glaucoma, retinal and corneal disease. She also completed a clinical rotation at Barrhaven Optometric Centre, gaining valuable primary care experience.

Dr. Rivard grew up in Greely, Ontario and is happy to be back in the Ottawa area after being away at school. In her spare time, she enjoys travelling, reading, and visiting with friends and family. She looks forward to raising her family in the Ottawa area.

Dr. Berthiaume is a graduate of the University of Waterloo, where she received her Doctor of Optometry degree in 1988. In 2004, she became a partner with Dr. Young at the Barrhaven Optometric Centre.

Dr. Berthiaume received her training in therapeutic pharmaceutical agents in 1994 from the Northeastern State University, College of Optometry, Tahlequah, Oklahoma. She is a member in good standing with the Ontario Association of Optometrists and the Ontario College of Optometrists, where she has served on the Children’s Vision and Standards of Practice committees. She has also been active with the Ottawa Society of Optometrists. Dr. Berthiaume has been involved in numerous clinical trials dealing with contact lens material research, contact lens solutions and dry eye care.

Dr. Berthiaume enjoys many sports and community activities with her husband Ray and their children: Élise, Sophie, and Benoit. She is currently an active volunteer with the Guid’amies Franco-Canadiennes.

Dr. Lucie Berthiaume retired from practice in November 2020.

Dr. Monaghan was born and raised in Ottawa before moving to Calgary where he completed his Honours Bachelor of Science degree. He returned to Ontario to pursue Optometry, earning his Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Waterloo on the Dean’s Honours List in 2009.

During his schooling, he completed externships in Halifax and Calgary, as well as a rotation in Louisville, Kentucky. There, he worked closely with retinal, corneal, and glaucoma specialists, receiving extensive ocular disease management training.

Upon graduation, Dr. Monaghan practiced in downtown Ottawa for 6 years. He served as the President of the Ottawa Society of Optometrists for 2 years, organizing continuing education for fellow Optometrists and building relationships with local Ophthalmologists. Dr. Monaghan is an active member of the Canadian Association of Optometrists (CAO), the Ontario Association of Optometrists (OAO), and the Ottawa Society of Optometrists (OSO).

Dr. Monaghan spends his spare time exploring Ottawa and all it has to offer with his wife and growing family. He enjoys hockey, the outdoors, and looks forward to regular trips out west to visit family in Calgary.

Dr. Élise Berthiaume was born and raised in Ottawa. In 2012, she completed her Bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences with a minor in Life Sciences at the University of Ottawa. She received her Doctor of Optometry degree with honours in May 2016 from the New England College of Optometry and was awarded the Dr. Hyman R. Kamens Award for her outstanding leadership and commitment to serving others in the optometric field.

Dr. Berthiaume’s experience was acquired at various clinics throughout the United States, including Alaska, where she gained valuable retinal and corneal disease knowledge, and worked extensively with contact lenses in a private practice setting. She has also travelled to Nicaragua to provide eye care for the underprivileged.

Dr. Berthiaume enjoys working alongside her mother, Dr. Lucie Berthiaume. In her spare time, she enjoys hockey, cycling, and the outdoors.

Dr. Yue Evelyn Zhang received her Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Optometry degrees from the University of Waterloo in 2018. She then completed a Cornea and Contact Lens Residency at the University of Waterloo, where she honed her skills in fitting specialty contact lenses and providing myopia control therapies. In her free time, Evelyn enjoys cooking, gardening and swimming.

Dr. Yvonne Mak was born and raised in Toronto. She received both her Honours Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Optometry on the Dean's Honours List from the University of Waterloo in 2019. 

Dr. Mak trained under cataract and retinal ophthalmologists at the Eye Centers of South Florida in North Miami Beach. She also completed in an internship in Victoria, British Columbia where she managed patients with a variety of ocular diseases including glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration. 

Dr. Mak is a member of the Canadian Association of Optometrists (CAO), the Ontario Association of Optometrists (OAO), and the Ottawa Society of Optometrists (OSO).

In her spare time, Dr. Mak enjoys exploring the city she is now proud to call home with her friends and family.

Dr. Christian Gilberg grew up locally in Ottawa, Ontario and earned a Bachelor of Computing from Queen's University, a Bachelor of Vision Science and Doctor of Optometry Degrees from Nova Southeastern University in 2020. His past experiences include an externship at an ophthalmology practice in North Miami Beach, Florida managing patients with pre- and post-operative cataracts, glaucoma and carious retinal diseases. Other experience includes externing at a family oriented primary care center in Hollywood, Florida for routine eye care. 

Dr. Gilberg is an active member of the Canadian Association of Optometrists (CAO) and Ontario Association of Optometrists (OAO). He began working in Barrhaven Optometric Centre in 2020.

Dr. Carina Saikaley was born and raised in Ottawa, Ontario. After obtaining her Bachelor of Health Sciences at the University of Ottawa she moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida to earn her Doctor of Optometry at Nova Southeastern University. She graduated in 2020 on the Dean's Honour List, and was also awarded membership into two academic honour societies, Beta Sigma Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi, during her studies. 

Throughout her clinical rotations, Dr. Saikaley developed extensive experience in specialty contact lenses, pediatric eye care, and myopia treatment through orthokeratology. Her past experience also includes training at surgical center in Boca Raton that specializes in ocular disease management and pre- and post-operative care for several ophthalmic surgeries.

When she's not in the clinic, Dr. Saikaley enjoys travelling, exploring new foods, and spending time with her family. She is excited to further advance the profession and provide the utmost quality of care to her patients.
